From the original T5’s groundbreaking debut in 2005 through its evolution as the smaller T5z, Taylor’s hollowbody hybrid electric- acoustic guitars have carved out a niche of their own in the landscape of stage-worthy musical instruments. The combination of electric and acoustic pickups and 5-way switching has given players a uniquely versatile tool to adapt for a wide range of musical applications.
Now, Taylor master builder Andy Powers has taken another step forward by refreshing the T5z with a suite of comfort-enhancing design updates that make it more appealing than ever. The pickups, preamp and five-way switching remain the same, retaining the signature sonic characteristics that have made the T5z musically appealing. But a lighter, slimmer and more contoured body, together with new, more accessible tone knob positioning, deliver an undeniably inviting playing experience.

Urban Ash Body:
The ash is lighter than the sapele formerly used, and the hollow body is carved thinner, further reducing the weight.
Rounded Edges + Armrest:
The body edges are smoothly contoured, and an armrest has been sculpted from the solid top, creating an extra sleek, comfortable feel. The body also features “integral” binding — the top’s rounded edges are left uncolored to contrast with the burst top and create the beautiful visual appeal of wood binding. Black top purfling adds an attractive finishing touch to the top edge treatment.
New, Relocated Volume/Tone Knobs:
The taller, bell- style knobs and their player-friendly positioning will feel more intuitive and make it easier to tweak your tone on the fly. Because of their new location, the new T5z will feature a single F-hole.
