When Gibson first launched the Les Paul™ Special in 1955, it was intended to be a more refined version of the Les Paul Junior. It featured two pickups instead of the Junior’s single pickup, along with enhanced visual appeal in the form of a mother-of-pearl headstock logo inlay and a bound fretboard. This positioned it as an intermediate model between the more ornate Les Paul Standard and the student-oriented Les Paul Junior.
In 1958, the Les Paul Special’s body was redesigned with a double-cutaway shape, offering improved access to the entire length of the fretboard. The model truly came into its own in 1960, when the neck pickup position was slightly relocated and the neck profile was updated to a faster-playing SlimTaper™ shape. These changes improved neck stability and made the guitar more comfortable and responsive than ever.
Now, Epiphone proudly introduces the Les Paul Special Double Cut, an Inspired by Gibson recreation of those sought-after early 1960s models. It features a slab mahogany double-cutaway body that provides unrestricted access across the fretboard. The glued-in mahogany neck sports a 60s SlimTaper profile and is topped with a bound rosewood fretboard equipped with 22 medium jumbo frets and pearloid dot position markers.
The 1960s Kalamazoo headstock is fitted with Epiphone three-on-a-plate tuners with ivory buttons, a Graph Tech® nut for reliable tuning stability, and a mother-of-pearl Epiphone logo for authentic vintage style. At the opposite end, the strings are anchored by an Epiphone Lightning Bar compensated wraparound bridge that bolts directly into the body, enhancing sustain and resonance.
Powering the Les Paul Special Double Cut is a pair of Epiphone P-90 PRO™ single-coil Soapbar pickups, capable of delivering everything from sweet, sparkling cleans to aggressive, fiery distortion. Each pickup is wired to its own volume and tone controls, providing excellent tonal flexibility.
The Epiphone Les Paul Special Double Cut is special in every sense and more accessible than ever. A premium gig bag is included.
